This page explains which cookies this site places, why, and how you stay in control of them. It is written to be read, not skimmed.
1. Which law applies
This site is operated from Quebec, Canada. This policy is based on the rules that actually apply here, not on the European framework:
- Law 25 — the Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information — which amends Quebec's private-sector privacy act.
- PIPEDA, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, covering commercial activity across Canada.
- CASL, Canada's anti-spam legislation, for email communication.
If you are visiting from the European Union, the GDPR may apply in addition. The choices offered here satisfy both frameworks in practice.
2. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit a site. It lets a browser be recognised from one page to the next, or from one visit to the next.
Law 25 does not use the word "cookie". It refers to technology that identifies, locates or profiles a person — a broader definition that also covers tracking pixels, beacons and browser fingerprinting.
3. The rule: off by default
Section 8.1 of Law 25 requires any profiling technology to be deactivated by default. Active consent is needed to switch it on. On this site, audience measurement stores nothing and tracks no one until you click "Accept".
On this specific point the requirement is stricter than the European framework: a correct banner is not enough, the technology itself must be technically inactive. Continuing to browse without answering counts as a refusal.

This site carries no advertising, runs no retargeting and shares your data with no data broker.
5. Changing your mind
Your consent is never final. You can change it at any time, without giving a reason.
You can also block or delete cookies from your browser settings. Doing so does not prevent you from using this site.
6. Your rights
Law 25 and PIPEDA give you the right to:
- access the personal information held about you;
- have it corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
- have it deleted, and withdraw your consent;
- receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format — portability, introduced by Law 25;
- be told about any confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury.
7. Privacy officer
As required by Law 25, this role is held by Hicham Souilmi, reachable at contact@hichamsouilmi.com. Any access, correction or deletion request receives a reply within 30 days at most.
8. Recourse
If a reply does not satisfy you, you can contact the relevant authority:
- the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI), for matters under Quebec law;
- the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, for the federal framework.
9. Changes
This policy may be updated if the site's tools or the legal framework change. The date of the latest revision appears at the top of this page. Any change widening the purposes would trigger a fresh request for consent.
